Hey what's up primers! Is everyone spending their holidays well? I'm here to inform you guys on one of the major upcoming event. That is....CLUB CRAWL. Yes it's time to recurit new fresh blood into the primers family and groom them to be better leaders of tomorrow! But to do that, we need everybody's help on the recuirtment.

Therefore, please tell me if you are avaliable on the club crawl day itself! Also indicate the shift you want to do during the days. Here's the detail for the event.You can either tag it on the tagboard or email me at my email at oink884@gmail.com.

Event: Club crawl 2008

Date: 17 and 18 April 2008 (Thurs and Fri)

Time: 11am-5pm

Attire: BB Primer polo tee and jeans

The shift is allocated into 2 time slot. First shift starts at 11am to 2.30pm while the second shift is from 2.30pm to 5pm. It is advisable to come in half an hour before your shift starting time to received a short briefing.

Please also note to choose the shift to suit your time table. If you have intention to help full day, do inform me in advance so that I can help you guys obtain excuse letter. Provide me with your name, admin no and the school you study in.

Project Smile

NYP Primers is starting Project Smile.

Project Smile is a community project whereby people learn magic and perform for the needy such as hospitals and nursing homes.

It builds confidence and learn communication skills which are useful in our everyday interactions.

Event: Project Smile
Dates: 15, 22, 29 Mar, 4 (class party), 12 Apr 2008 (Community service)
Time: 930am to 1230pm
Cost: $100 before subsidy ($80 after subsidy)

Payment Scheme:
1. $50 on registration
2. the remainder of $30 would be the last session Project Smile
3. $20 funded by NYP(Primers)

The reason why it cost as such is because you get to keep the props as well.

Primers Orientation Camp 07

This year, our POC was combined with a number of BB senior companies and church youth into a mega camp!

Our first day, after some ice breakers, was to head down to BB/GB Campsite. After lunch, we started off with rappelling. It was a first time for many of us and all completed the rappelling without any problems. Thanks to the rappelling instructors for taking time off to teach us and guide us!

After rappelling, we prepared to teach outdoor cooking to the primers. This is because the primers will be the one doing the teaching to hundred over boys and girls! They've done it very well. Primers can cook, so can you!

We ended off the first day with night games with the rest of the camp. It was indeed a funny and fun time, especially the butt warriors part. We got wet, wet, wet with a water bomb game. We pitched our tents under some shelter and slept in somewhat more comfortable settings under the stars.

The next day was mainly kayaking, the sun, sand and the sea. We dropped off at some deserted beach halfway to play water captain's ball.

We joined in the talent night and really had an opportunity to see each other's hidden talents! And one of our primers team managed to bag the first prize! Elijah really looked power!

We headed down to Daniel Hall to spend the night in air-con room, having supper and playing cards. After the debrief in the morning, it was home sweet home.

We got to shoot so many arrows we lost count!

The teams really got to know Sentosa a little better. It's so interesting to see many new faces, many of whom are foreigners.

It rained, but it did not dampen our spirits much. Cause we're so hungry! Food and fellowship go together!

nyp christmas chalet 2006

We had our christmas chalet at pasir ris in december 2006.
The chalet included tickets to the themepark. It was a fun time, until a crash occurred during the race trek. One of our primers was bumped from behind and it shocked her. She was ok, but probably never step into the trek again!

We attempted to go to take part in the mass carolling at Orchard Road. It was a nightmare! The crowd was massive and it was a tough time going through to our destination. In the end, when we reached there, it was quite disappointing. We did not carol but headed back to our chalet. We were watching out for mobs for sprayers along the way. Quite scary.

Otherwise, it was a nice time to relax among friends.

NYP Primers participated in the Inter-Primers Olympics Day, organized by Singapore Poly Primers and was held at Ngee Ann Poly. We sent in a captain's ball (girl's team), basketball (girl and boy) teams and a soccer team.

We had alot of fun and had an opportunity to interact with other primers from other polys and a team from hq primers as well.

I hope we can have more opportunity to get to know the other poly primers better and work together towards building the Primers as a strong family.

The goal had never been to win a trophy but to get to know one another.

Mission Mount Ophir 2006 completed!

Hey all,

A group of 12 have made it to the top of Ophir and back. It was one memorable expedition for me. Not only we met a TV star, we met several kinds of animals, almost had to get back down without a guide and even miss our train! Really experienced God's grace all the way! I have some pictures to take back with us and share with you all.

First day, we took a long train ride to Segamat station. We were like having a gambling den on the train! We were playing mahjong, tai-tee and making a whole lot of noise!

After taking a bus to the road near our destination(and a little sleep), we had a long walk to the Gunung Ledang Resort. We settled the guides and fees and climbed up to Puteri waterfalls. We set up our tents, bathed, cooked our dinner and rested. Then came out the giant ants who welcomed us. They seem to come out at a certain time of the evening, and scaring some of us.

The next morning, we made our way to CP1 where we met a Singapore local TV star - Suhaimi! He gamely took a picture together with us. A few of us were excited to be captured on the TV programme!

Along the way, the guide brought some of us close to the twin water falls. It was a spectacular sight! If only we could pitch our tents there and have a shower under it! We managed to take a picture of a lizard that looked so much like a branch we didn't notice it till later. Interesting huh?

We reached CP4 in time for lunch and a close bath in the river, jacuzzi style. We even had fish nibbling off the dead skin on our toes. I heard it is a spa treatment in Japan, and we're having it for free! Later in the day, we had a mini campfire and ate marshmellows. And we happened to see a porcupine. I initially thought it was a cat and then the spikes on its back were unmistakenable. We managed to take a picture but it's a little hard to see it. At least you can see the orange frog clearly.

We woke up very early the next morning, hoping to see the sunrise on the summit. A hot cup of milo can do wonders on such a cold morning! The Suhaimi group woke up earlier and set off earlier but we managed to catch up and overtake them! But credit must be given to them, they had a 5 year old boy and some older women. They made it up the same anyway.

It was an experience to climb in the dark and aided only by our torchlight and the moonlight. KFC was one tough route to do! Nope, it's not some fast food restaurant. It's actually called Killing Field Centre. When you've climbed it you know why. It seemed like endless number of roots to climb over.

We did not manage to reach the summit by sunrise but we did catch a glimpse of the sunrise along the way! When we finally reach the summit, the view was marvelous. We were above the clouds!We had breakfast on the summit and captured the moments in the SD card!

The way down was difficult as well and tough. We had to be more careful about where we stepped on. There was this bee that kept following us and chased us quite a distance! While we were on the way down to CP4, we somehow got split up and the second batch (which I was in) was caught in the rain. It was quite heavy and slowed down our pace.

When the second batch reached CP4, some of us were too tired we decided to rest overnight at CP4 and make our way back the next morning. We informed the guide of the extended stay and rested.

The third morning, after we packed our tents, we were quite puzzled why the guide did not come to pick us up. We went to find him only to discover there was no trace of him! Having a train to catch, we could not risk missing the train and decided to make our way back on our own. We managed to meet the guide along the way. Apparently, he had run out of food and clothes and went down to the resort on his own. Thank God he managed to find us.

By the time we reached the resort, it was already 1045 am. Our train was to leave at 1150am. The canteen operator told us the bus comes every half hour and the next one was at 11am! We won't be able to make it even if we ran. The group did not seem like they could run after the long trek down the mountain. The bus would take 45 minutes to reach Segamat.

By God's grace, we saw some vans parked at the resort. Johnathan managed to negotiate with the resort staff and they agreed to send us to Segamat at a reasonable cost.

We sped down to Segamat in the van (not without filling up with gas first). By the time we touched down at Segamat, it was 12 noon. Seeing a large number of people at the station, we found out that the train was late! Praise God! Sometimes we complain when the bus or a train is late. We may never know that God is answering someone's prayer. No wonder we must give thanks in all circumstances!

We got on the train and headed back to Singapore. We never missed our bed so much! I guess some of us enjoy it so much we might consider climbing Mt Ophir again. Till then, enjoy the pictures!

BB Cares 2006

We just had our BB Cares at Chen Su Lan Methodist Children's Home on the 22nd of July. We had fun with the kids today, playing Captain's ball, poison ball, sang a song with them and played other indoor games.

Overall, the organizing committee did a good job in planning and execution of the programme. The most important thing is that the children enjoyed themselves.

Many of us were surprised that the children opened up quite fast. We were quite worried when we first saw them and they did not seem friendly. The wonder of snacks to break the ice!

Thanks to all who came down and made today's event a success!

BB Dedication service

ESPN Kick Off!

Hey Primers,

A number of us went to the ESPN KICK OFF! Game show on 16/1/06. It's a quiz to find the top football fans in Asia. It was hosted by ESPN football crazy host, Andy Penders, with appearances by Les Ferdinand and Lee Sharpe.

For many of us, it was a first time being part of a live audience in a TV show. We also managed to get some pictures with the football stars.

Thoughts about the Treasure Hunt

Although we had the treasure hunt two weeks ago, where we travelled through a distance and got to see some interesting sights along the way, there are a few pointers that I would wish that we learn along the way.

2. Baggage

I had tried but unsuccessfully to let our bags be placed in the room while we carried out our treasure hunt. But God may have allowed it to happen to teach us something. People say that life is a marathon. However, for many of us, we are travelling through it with baggages in our lives.

What are the baggages in our lives? It could be the resentment we feel towards someone, whatever happended in the past or the guilt of doing something wrong. These things weigh us down in our walk of life. In Hebrews 12:1, "Therefore since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us"

2. Treasure

Did anyone wondered why at the end of the treasure hunt, where was the treasure? Maybe some expected a prize at the end of the "race". I wondered what was the rush. Inititally, we expected the programme to end at 4pm. I was so concerned we could not end on time that I considered we pack our lunch and eat along the way!

When we reached our midpoint earlier than expected, I knew we have alot of time on our hands. It was never meant to be a competition. My group even took time to take pictures and explored abit. Ben said something, "Let's do something we would not normally do". The road that we took was one that we may not have gone ever in our life, but we did.

The real treasure was the friendships we made and the experiences we had along the way. Let us seek for treasures that thieves cannot steal and moths cannot destroy. This is something I learnt after the Adventure Quest we had this year. I thought that being top 20% of the first leg was an achievement. That was not the point. The point that we should learn is that of humilty, teamwork and perseverance. There will always be another competition and another winner. By then our names might even be forgotten. But we won't forget the experiences and exasperations!

I hope we have the right attitude as we organize activities and plan for programmes. Prizes are not essential, people are.

Memories from Shi Zhi Lu Kou

Hi all,

We just had our Shi Zhi Lu Kou last Friday. It was a night of food, fun and friends! Many of us was playing the game for the first time.

The most memorable part for me was being blindfolded and asked to smell a food item. It was my first time to try "Chou Tou Foo"! It really smelled terrible! Thanks for the team that gave me a big piece to eat! bleahz!

The prize giving ceremony was another interesting part of the programme. There's a prize for everything! Most thrifty, Most spendthrift, Most Tai Tai, Most slack group etc. The prizes were so lame too!

It ended off with a heartwarming photo presentation of the whole night's events.

Good job for the committee that put this event together. Keep it up!

May we continue to keep in touch with friends we made along the way! "If we hold on together..."

BB Thanksgiving Carnival

Hi all,

Thanks to those who helped out in the BB CARES carnival. It was a really busy day for us! Thank God it stopped raining just before the beneficiaries came.

I tell you, I did my rounds of all the games stall. Ours was the most attractive prizes of all! We had so many soft toys, in the end, we just gave them out to anyone just to clear stock! I remember when Ivy was asking me about the prizes, I told her, "God will provide". I got the idea when Huijuan told me she has many soft toys. It reminded me of when the disciples of Jesus asked Him when the people were hungry. He told them, "You give them something to eat." All they had were five loaves and two fishes. And God multiplied what they had. Thank you all for donating your soft toys for this event.

I would also like to thank Faithworks for sponsoring the gifts for this event. Paul, thank you and your company for your generosity.

I hope that the carnival had been a heartwarming occasion for you as it was for me. The smiles the people had when they played our game "Ring toss" and the other stalls in the carnival certainly made it worthwhile.
